Akeelah and the Bee - Wonderful Movie

Akeelah and the Bee

What a wonderful movie this is. Just when you thought they weren't making heartwarming, thought-provoking, tear-jerking , intelligent movies - Akeelah and the Bee comes along. I can't rave enough about this movie. It's a story of cooperation, adversity, racism, classism, and a neighborhood coming together. The synopsis of the movie: It's about a young girl, motivated by her father, when he was alive, strives to win a spelling bee. She faces many obstacles on her path. The tag line for the movie: "Changing the world... one word at a time" is similar to my Greeting Card Business's tag line "Changing the card at a time."

One of my favorite quotes of all times, often attributed to Nelson Mandela, but in fact was written by Marianne Williamson appears in the movie:

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate.

Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.

It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us.

We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God.

Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone.

And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.
